Thousands of miles and a total of 17 different college campuses is where Chris Wheeler and the Red Bus Project interns have traveled this spring, all to spread awareness and raise money for orphan care. The Red Bus Project launched in the spring of 2012 and is the college initiative of Show Hope, which was founded by Steven and Mary Beth Chapman to provide care for orphans and funding for families to adopt children. So, what is The Red Bus Project? It is an actual red double-decker bus from England that has been converted into a … [Read more...]
LifeMatters // Seek Godliness :: Proverbs 31:25-31
Be sweet. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Hold your tongue. Think before you speak. Any of that sound familiar? The things we say are important. What we say will either build up or tear down those around us. A common maxim says, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" (the source for this is likely Proverbs 17:28, not Abe Lincoln, as commonly thought). Our words matter. The question is, are they wise? These verses are key in understanding how to … [Read more...]
LifeMatters // Pursue Godly Ways :: Proverbs 3:31-35
We've all wished for things we think would improve our relationships. I wish so-and-so would call more. He doesn't bring me flowers often enough. She doesn't compliment me enough. I wish I had money to go out with friends. I wish I had more time to spend with my family. We want healthy relationships. But what we think would improve those relationships generally revolves around two things: how other people or our circumstances should change. Our relationships are driven by selfishness and discontentment. But God has a different … [Read more...]
Wanting to Want God
I want to do what is right, but I can't. I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Paul had these same thoughts in Romans 7 as he described the struggle between his sinful nature and the only escape from it: Jesus. I've certainly felt this way before. Have you? The fact is, I want to want God. My heart desires to be drawn to His like a magnet, yet I still don't consistently do what is right. In this way, I'm not only like my brother Paul, but I'm also like Jacob. At a quick … [Read more...]
LifeMatters // Promised Fruitfulness :: Leviticus 26:3-10
Fruit trees blossom in April. Every type of fruit tree requires specific work to encourage fruitfulness. You can over- or under-prune, over- or under-fertilize, and over- or under-water. The tree needs right conditions to flourish. The same applies to you and me. We need right conditions to flourish. Leviticus 26:3-10 spells out that holiness leads to right conditions for fruitfulness. The Israelites depended on a good harvest. They needed rain, good soil, well-tended fields, and healthy livestock. Likewise, their safety was always … [Read more...]

LifeMatters :: Separate From Sinful Practices // Leviticus 18:20-26
Separating from society's influence is really about having a proper world view. When we let culture instead of Jesus influence us, we move toward sin. Right now, Western nations hold debates on human rights, abortion, legalization of certain drugs, gay marriage, and more. Where are those debates leading us? Where do we stand? Will we capitulate to the pressure or stand on God's truth? Leviticus 18:20-26 is God's warning to Israel about sin. God predicted the influences of Egypt and Canaan would bewitch His people, leading the nation … [Read more...]
