I was reading this morning in Isaiah 1, and verse 23 literally jumped off the page at me.
“Your rulers are rebels, friends of thieves. They all love graft and chase after bribes.
They do not defend the rights of the fatherless and the widow’s case never comes before them.”
It’s amazing about how relevant the Bible is at all times. I don’t know about you, but I have had about all the news I can take about Wall Street, bailouts and corruption of all kinds. But rather than focus on the negative, how about focusing on a solution for people who are oppressed, who have no one to stand up for them?
If you’ve completed Todd Phillips’ thought-provoking study Get Uncomfortable, you know he is a person dedicated to holding up the plight of the poor. Right now, the teaching pastor of Frontline is in the midst of an incredibly ambitious project called The Last Well. He told me all about it a couple of weeks ago in Charlotte, where he helped Threads with a Connect Conference at Carmel Baptist Church. Todd was literally bouncing off the walls about The Last Well.
In a nutshell, the project is focused on bringing clean water to the entire country of Liberia by 2013.
Todd believes God can do this through His people and so do I.
So, take your focus off junk mortgages, the stock market and gas prices.
Focus on helping those who need clean water—in Jesus’ name.
