Have you ever felt slightly beat up after reading something in God’s Word? Sometimes when I feel like I’ve been an A+ Christian, I read something that exposes the ungodly things in me that I’ve shoved way down out of sight. And it hurts. It hurts my pride knowing that I’m still struggling. This passage is one of those: Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. … [Read more...]
Grace Doesn’t Discriminate
A while back, I got an unexpected long distance phone call. I was surprised to hear the voice of my homeless friend Shirlene on the other end. After exchanging delighted greetings, Shirlene told me that she and Sam, another homeless friend, finally made it to the beach. They’d saved every penny for a month to buy one-way Greyhound tickets to Tampa. Some friends and I met Sam and Shirlene one humid Sunday afternoon at our downtown riverfront park. We packed brown bag lunches and a cooler full of popsicles and set out to … [Read more...]
YMCA--A Better Picture of Discipleship?
I’m sitting in the ‘Coffee Nook’ of the local YMCA like I do every Friday night. We arrive at about 5 p.m., and after my eldest son runs off to his soccer practice, and I get my other two kids to their respective childcare spots, I usually grab a cup of Java and find a comfortable place in this ‘kids free zone’ haven they have carved out near the lobby. I plug my headphones in, throw my iTunes Party Shuffle on, and settle in to spend some quiet time preparing for our Sunday morning up/rooted teaching … [Read more...]
Why Europe?
I wanted to tell you about an exciting new work in Europe. I’ve recently been in touch with my friend, Larry McCrary, about some really cool stuff that he is leading. If you’ve not heard yet about Upstream Collective or the Skybridge Community, let me be the first to introduce you. His passion and this kind of ministry really connects with the postmodern generation and our efforts at Threads. Read more from Larry below. Why Europe? I have lived in Europe for almost eight years. We were involved in church planting … [Read more...]

Q&A Journey Continues … “Ben Arment”
I launched my shady blog tour of Blemished a few weeks ago You can see my explanation for doing this at the beginning of THIS post. Thus far, we’ve been grateful to talk with Pete Wilson and Ed Stetzer. You can see their interviews HERE and HERE. This week, however, we have a new “interviewer.” Ben might have one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. Outside of being a great guy, he also serves as the Experience & Innovation Director at Catalyst and is the founder of The Whiteboard Sessions. He’s a … [Read more...]

Listen in as Keith Inman at 2008’s Collegiate Week East talks about providing clean and pure water (physically and spiritually) for people in need, and how we as Christians should be stepping into the pain of the world to show what a difference Christ can make. … [Read more...]
Listen to Their Stories
Editor’s Note: We are constantly looking for churches that are successfully implementing young adult programs. Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee has a thriving Tuesday night gathering for young adults called Kairos. In the book, Glenn tells the story of Kairos in hopes that it will inspire other churches in their young adult ministry efforts. Much of Glenn’s writing is informed by the findings of Lifeway Research. We … [Read more...]
