Day Three of the Scouting the Divine video shoot was set in a Tennessee vineyard. I think every neighbor decided to mow their grass at some point during the day, but overall, it was a great day of filming. Perfect way to wrap it up. The video, cartwheels and all, shows that we all had a great time. Thanks, Margaret, for working so hard! Click here to learn more about the upcoming Bible study. Scout the divine with your small group in January—the perfect way to kick off 2010! … [Read more...]

Rosh Hashanah
Editor’s Note: Three of the major feasts of the Jewish calendar occur in September and October. Embracing these feasts, and the principles upon which they are built, reminds Christians of their heritage and ultimately point squarely to the gospel. If you’re interested in learning more about the links between Judaism and Christianity, and finding Christ sitting at the table of tradition, check out Feast, a Bible study from Threads by Derek Leman. Rosh Hashanah, like many Jewish traditions, can be confusing. The name Rosh … [Read more...]

College Leaders: Make Your Presence Known on Campus
As college leaders, most of our fall semesters are well underway. We’ve moved the freshmen in (and secretly laughed at all the stuff they expected to cram it into a room roughly the size of a Hummer). We’ve participated in involvement fairs and distributed enough survival packs to feed students well into their Christmas Break. We’ve also hosted our first group gatherings. The beginning of the fall semester is the most opportune time to reach students on a college campus. And boy do we put a lot of energy and … [Read more...]

Penny pinching sounds undesirable to some, but changing your lifestyle is easier than you might think. I was challenged to flex my spending muscle in five major areas of daily life. Some of the suggestions may not work for you, but others might be helpful on your path toward living a more frugal lifestyle. Grocery Shopping Obviously … [Read more...]
Is it as easy as it seems on TV?
What does it take to follow Christ? Matthew 7:13-15 paints a different picture of Christianity than we typically see from the TV and many churches these days. Following Christ is often seen as a way to the easy life, comfort, and the Promised Land. But these verses talk about the narrow gate and few finding it. Wide is the path that leads to destruction though. Watch this video and think if it is something you’d sign up for. To join the Royal Marines, I’d definitely say you have to enter through a narrow gate. After watching that … [Read more...]
Super Spirituality: Are You a Faith Snob? (Part 2)
Part 2 of Super Spirituality: Are You a Faith Snob? continues … You can read Part 1 here. What Should We Do? As we better understand the impact of spiritual snobbery in our lives, how can we avoid being guilty of it? As with all elements of the Christian walk, we should cautiously approach any prescriptive path toward holiness. In fact, this often leads to legalism, which sits at the core of many people’s spiritual arrogance. But there are a few helpful action points toward refuting faith snobbery. And as my … [Read more...]
