My favorite air to breathe is fall air on a college campus. Believe it or not, fall and the arrival of students, new and returning, is here! Football players, resident assistants, sorority recruitment leaders, and band members are likely on your campus right now. Others will quickly follow! Wooo Hooo! Most freshmen arriving on your campus in a few weeks were born in 1992. Other happenings in 1992 were: A League of Their Own, Sister Act, and A Few Good Men were popular movies. The Pelican Brief by John Grisham, Every Living Thing by … [Read more...]

BeachReach: BeachReach 2009 in Review
Collegiate Staffer Heather Manning road tripped down to Panama City Beach last March to experience the round-the-clock fun that is BeachReach. She captured the people, places, and pancakes in hopes of inspiring you, our faithful readers, to follow in her footsteps and get down there for Spring Break 2010. Prayer requests stream in via text each night as students meet Spring Breakers in the vans, on the beach, and on the strip. In ‘09, 91 people made first-time decisions to accept Christ. Grass-roots advertising let Spring … [Read more...]
Leading College Students?
Are you leading the collegiate ministry in your church, or is the collegiate ministry in your church leading you? Funny how that works, isn’t it? Leading and learning are so closely connected. Perhaps, since I’ve lived and learned a few decades longer than Katye, she gained insight and encouragement from me. Perhaps. I’m sure, however, that as I … [Read more...]
College Leaders: Make Your Presence Known on Campus
As college leaders, most of our fall semesters are well underway. We’ve moved the freshmen in (and secretly laughed at all the stuff they expected to cram it into a room roughly the size of a Hummer). We’ve participated in involvement fairs and distributed enough survival packs to feed students well into their Christmas Break. We’ve also hosted our first group gatherings. The beginning of the fall semester is the most opportune time to reach students on a college campus. And boy do we put a lot of energy and … [Read more...]
Connecting with College Students over Christmas
Don’t you wish all of life operated on semesters? The natural break would provide great opportunities to get your oil changed, drop off the dry-cleaning, connect with friends, sleep until 8, and eat more than a little pie. Whether your life benefits from a semester break or not, the time between semesters provides a wonderful opportunity to intentionally connect with the college students from your church who are home for Christmas. With Lifeway Research discovering that 70 percent of teens who attended a Protestant church … [Read more...]
Greg Ludwig’s Story
Tonight, the last night for worship at Collegiate Week East at Ridgecrest, was such an amazing experience in the presence of the Lord. When Dave Hunt finished his last song, no one wanted to leave. Dave and the band kept rocking it out leading us in worship. Tonight was life changing for Greg Ludwig from Indiana, who accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Check out this video of him telling his story. … [Read more...]
