Merry Christmas from all of us at Lifeway Young Adults! "For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6, HCSB … [Read more...]
Oh, Little Town of Chaos
“And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough – because there was no room for them at the lodging place.” (Luke 2:4-7, HCSB) It seems that the images of Bethlehem … [Read more...]

Reaching International Students on Campus
According to the Institute of International Education (IIE), over one million students from countries around the world are currently studying in colleges and universities in the United States. When we think of taking the gospel of Jesus “to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8), we can begin by reaching out to the international students that God has brought to our campus and community. Roger and Rose Bear, Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) leaders in Indiana, use the following approaches to help students on their campus reach and … [Read more...]
Throw Some Confetti in Your Young Adult Ministry
“Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:15 My 14-year-old son scored his first 3-pointer in a high school basketball game this past week. It would be fun to say that he made a last second shot to win a big game and got carried off the floor by his teammates. In reality, our team was losing by a significant margin. So, the coach decided to put in all of the freshman to give them some playing time and game experience. Those young guys made the most of the opportunity. When Tyler sank the “3” I may … [Read more...]

You Can Own Your Sin Because Jesus Bore Your Sin
In Tolkein’s classic The Fellowship of the Ring, the Lady of the Woods, Galadriel, says to Frodo the Hobbit: “You are a ring-bearer, Frodo. To bear a ring of power is to be alone. This task was appointed to you. And if you do not find a way, no one will.” The statement stands in the shadow of Jesus for the Christian. Jesus, who prayed in the garden that if there was a way, some other way, than for Jesus to bear the weight of sin, then let it be so. But the answer came back from the Father to the Son. This is a task … [Read more...]
4 Reasons Why You Need to Check Out Disciples Path: The Journey
I’m always on the lookout for resources that can help young adults understand what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and how that affects every aspect of their life. When young adults begin to embrace that following Christ is not just a part of their life, but it is their life, you’ll see a young adult that has been completely transformed for the gospel. Recently, Lifeway released a new resource called Disciples Path: The Journey. I’m convinced that young adult ministries would benefit significantly by leading their small groups … [Read more...]

Recognizing Your Role Model Status
I teach ninth grade English, and I am often reminded that my students watch what I am saying and doing constantly—probably even more so when I am not teaching a lesson about grammar or literature. Recently, I was chatting with a teacher and a former student in the hallway between classes, and somehow the topic of spending money on things we enjoy came up. I mentioned nice dinners, and my student finished my list for me, naming cupcakes with orange frosting. (I’m a sweet-eater and a Tennessee V-O-L-S fan.) My teacher friend looked … [Read more...]
